If you do, then you’ll want to explore our short courses right away.  They usually last between three to seven weeks and are great for improving your skills in a career-relevant subject (a short course in Advanced Excel is an excellent example of a course that most people will be able to use in their career).

Short courses can also be specifically related to a career - they offer you a basic understanding of your chosen industry, which is beneficial if you are starting to plan your studies.  Let’s face it, who wants to waste years of education on the wrong career?  Nobody!  With a short course, you won’t need to.

In many career pathways work, experience is required to complete your education. So you’ll need to bag a job to gain work experience in many situations before you are fully educated.  A short course is the best way to enhance your chances of bagging that job because you have demonstrated commitment, effort and motivation from the start.

Types of Courses

You’ll usually need to study to either a Certificate II or higher if you are following a specific career path and if you want to give yourself the best chance in your career.  After you’ve completed a short course, have bagged the work experience and decided that your chosen industry is for you, you can move onto the next level courses if required, or desired.

Short Courses

This type of short course is not generally acknowledged as being certified, but are usually the shortest, and are what you’d take to learn about an industry, and to nab that first position if you don’t have any experience already. 

Certificate I Courses:

The purpose of the Certificate I qualification type is to qualify individuals with basic functional knowledge and skills to undertake work, further learning and community involvement.

Certificate II Courses:

A Certificate II course in your chosen career will start to build on your knowledge and teach basic practices related to your field in preparation for higher education. These courses are recognised as an entry-level qualification.

Certificate III Courses: 

Certificate III Courses usually, last around 12 months and often require work experience to pass.  You’ll expand your knowledge gained in your previous course.  In some industries, this will be the education level needed to obtain an entry-level position, but in other careers, you’ll need to study further - for example, a Diploma or Bachelor degree. 

Certificate IV Courses:

The purpose of the Certificate IV qualification type is to qualify individuals to apply a broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake skilled work and as a pathway for further learning.
