Student Support
Can I get study support over the phone?
Yes. You may be using a computer to access your course information but don’t forget that your course is provided by real people who are willing to actually talk to you when you need it. This can include advice about enrolment, coursework, assessments or any issues you may have.
What kind of interaction will I have with teaching staff and other students?
The way you make contact with your tutors and/or lecturers depends on the course provider you choose, but regardless of whom you’re working with, you will have plenty of interaction with your course provider. Online courses typically offer a forum environment where students can discuss coursework, assignments and exams so you’ll not only have support from your teachers but your fellow students too.
Studying online
What is the difference between studying online and on campus?
The difference between studying online and studying on campus is when and where you study. On-campus study means studying at a university or institution, and most likely, you need to attend class in person during designated times. With distance education you will receive your course materials online or by mail and can study anytime and anywhere. There are benefits and disadvantages to both options – it’s up to you to decide what suits you best.
I want to study by distance. Will I have some sort of personal tutor/contact who I can ask questions and discuss issues with?
Our course providers all offer student support for general enquiries through a range of different avenues. Expert advisors and tutors are also on board to help you with assignments and any other course enquiries you have. Contact can be made via email, phone, fax or even mail. You will receive contact details from your course consultant upon enrolment.
How long will my course take?
The length of time it takes for you to complete your course will depend on the course you have chosen and the method of study. Studying online means you can study at your own pace, so how long it takes to complete your course will depend on you and your study timetable. Distance education courses will have a maximum number of years you can take to complete your course and this will differ from course provider to course provider. If you have chosen to study on campus the length of the course will determine how long it will take you to complete. This will also differ according to the course provider and the chosen course.
Why should I study online?
Online study is a great alternative to studying on campus. If you have commitments to work, children or extracurricular activities, if you live in a rural or remote area, or if your mobility is restricted, it may be difficult to attend classes on a regular basis. Online study means you don’t have to miss out on getting a tertiary education.
How will I receive my study materials when completing a course by correspondence or online?
Depending on who you study with, your course work and assessments will be accessible either online or mailed to you.
Will I get to meet other students?
Most providers offer student forums for students to get in contact with each other, find study buddies, and ask each other for help. Some providers organise meet-ups for their students. While you may miss out on the face-to-face contact, you will still be able to find peer support from past and present students.
Studying on campus
Why should I study on campus?
While distance education provides you with a flexible alternative to gaining an education, on-campus study allows you to enjoy the whole experience of studying in person. Many people prefer being able to meet lecturers and tutors in person as well as other students. Studying on campus also provides you with the opportunity to get involved in campus life. For international students it provides the opportunity to study in Australia – one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I want to study on-campus. What kind of support will I have?
On-campus support will depend on the facilities provided by the education institution. You will have the support of lecturers and tutors available in person as well as via phone and email. Student services also provide support for students who need help with aspects of their study, such as essay writing and stress management.
