“I would use the scholarship money to take Photoshop classes from an authorised Adobe training centre. Between semesters of my masters program in human rights, I often travel to countries where those rights are not always respected. I would like to combine my understanding of human rights with my Bachelor’s degree in communications and interest in photography to pursue photojournalism. People tend to be complacent about the uglier corners of human nature until they can see them with their own eyes, and I want to bring discussion of human rights violations out of academia and government offices and to the local coffee shop. Of course, to get the best out of my photos, I need a more advanced understanding of Photoshop and the printing process. I would use my new Photoshop skills to produce bold images in a consistent style without resorting to too much digital trickery, which I could then hopefully have accepted for exhibition or publication.”
